The Petra Organisation yesterday officially launched the 2019 edition of the Courts Pee Wee U-11 Football Championship at the furniture giant’s Main Street location.

The 24-team event, which is in its eighth year, will commence on September 21st. The grand finale will be on November 2nd.

The teams will be divided into six groups of four. The top two finishers from each section and the four best third-placed teams will advance to the elimination round.

Petra Organisation Co-Director Troy Mendonca said, “We would have seen the country involved in a whole host of tournaments and we see a lot of players from Under-15 to senior would have come through the ranks of [the] Courts Pee Wee tournament and it shows this investment does not stop here.”

Meanwhile, Courts Brand Manager Roberta Ferguson said that the event is an investment for the future of the nation. She added that the company has seen great success and progression of the championship.

Troy Peters, the Communications Manager of Banks DIH echoed Ferguson’s sentiments. He said that the progression and overall success of the event is the reason the company continues to support the initiative through its Malta Supreme and Rainforest Waters.

Bryan Joseph, the head of the Guyana Football Federation’s Youth Development Unit, said that the tournament continues to have a significant impact on the development of the sport, as several players have progressed into the respective national youth ranks.
