A match-defining innings from West Indies U15 batsman Mavindra Dindyal propelled hosts,  the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC),  to first innings honours over the Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) on day-one of the GISE, Star Party Rental, first-division, two-day tournament, yesterday.

GCC ended the day on 157 for 7 responding to GYO’s 101. Dindyal, who struck a beautiful innings of 66 which included five fours and two maximums, spearheaded the hosts first innings response.

The right-hander shared in a 75-run stand with Carlos Larose (25). The pair came together with the score on 64-4 and took the score past the 100-run mark after left-arm spinner Trevon France had removed the top order cheaply.

France claimed the prize scalp of Dindyal on the stroke of close of play to claim his fifth wicket and end the day with impressive figures of 5-51. Pacer Neiland Cadogan (1-30) who bowled with searing pace, was exciting to watch. He removed skipper Ronaldo Ali Mohammed (20).

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, GYO, after being sent in at the start of play, were coasting along on 60-0 on the back of a solid opening stand from Yeudistir Persaud and Anand Barath.

Both men missed out on half-centuries scoring 41 and 35 runs respectively as the middle and lower order folded with little resolve. They lost 10 wickets as cheaply as they were bundled out for 101 in 51.3 overs.

Off spinner Timothy McAlmont (4-15), Stephon Wilson (2-24) and skipper Ali Mohammed 2-16 led the rout. Play resumes today from 10:30hrs. GCC are 56 runs ahead heading into today’s final day.
