GCC defeat GYO by nine wickets

The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) inflicted a commanding nine-wicket win over the Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) at the end of day-two of the ongoing GISE, Star Party Rental, first-division, two-day tournament, yesterday. 

GCC, who resumed day two on 157-7 in response to GYO’s first innings total of 101, were dismissed for 202 with Bernard Bayley contributing a handy unbeaten 35 at the bottom of the innings to help secure a 101-run lead for the host.

GYO’s Trevon France who captured five wickets on day one, ended with impressive figures of 7-54. He got support from Divesh Ramjattan (2-40).

Staring at a deficit of 101 runs to make GCC bat again, GYO found it tough early on before a rear-guard partnership of 78 between Neiland Cadogan (62) who hammered a 31-ball, half century and France (55) who came in at number nine and bided his time before unleashing a few lusty blows, pushed GYO past the 150-run mark.

 The duo’s contribution propelled GYO to 167 before they were dismissed in the 55th over. They earned a lead of 66 runs. Stephon Wilson ended as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-36 while Bayley (2-24) and Carlos LaRose (2-23) gave support. 

 GCC completed the win by coasting to 67-1 as Jeetendra Sookdeo (28) and Timothy McAlmont (30) ended unbeaten to carry their side over the line.
