Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) President, Aleem Hussain Saturday won the third annual Silica Sands Inc., (SSI) tournament, his second triumph in two weeks.

SSI tournament host, Haresh Tiwari, who participated, again excelled in his Flight but graciously refused the honour of the win, allowing other golfers to benefit from his benevolence.

In the 0 – 10 Flight, Hussain returned 66/9 while Avinda Kishore, on his return from a near two-year hiatus, was second with 67/5. Kishore also won the Nearest to the Pin and Best Overall Gross awards.

“My play will be alright when I settle in,” said Kishore, who made four bogies and two birdies on the front nine and two birdies and two bogies on the back nine.

In the 11 – 19 Flight, William Walker, 69/12 won from Satrohan Tiwari, 69/17.

In the 20 – 28 Flight, Mahendra Bhagwandin, 71/20, won from Brian Hackett, 73/22.

“My play is constantly improving which shows that I am looking for a place in the Guyana Open 2019.” Hackett said afterwards.

Former Guyana Open champion Shanella London, 68/15, won the ladies category from Dr. Joaan Deo, 74/14.

Nine-time Guyana Open champion Avinash Persaud, playing with an injury, won yet another long drive prize, this time almost reaching the green in one.

The Tiwari family committed to hosting future tournaments and promised that the next one would be even better than the first three. Family spokesperson, Kayshav Tiwari, said that both he and his sister were extremely proud of their dad and their involvement with the game in the Lusignan Village would continue for years to come.

Hussain thanked the sponsors, who recently donated loads of special sand for the greens and said that was a contributing factor to his win since the course was in the best condition ever due to the hard work by the staff and assistance from the Lusignan Prison Service.

“With the course playing so easy, we will see better performances from all our players as we ramp up for the Suriname and Guyana Opens,” Hussain said.
