A taxi driver was on Tuesday freed after a jury found him not guilty of raping a 13-year-old.

It was alleged that Tevin Vickerie, 23, between January 1st and January 31st, 2018, at Soesdyke-Linden Highway, engaged in sexual penetration of a child, 13.

After two hours of deliberation, a 12-member jury on Tuesday returned with a not guilty verdict in the courtroom of Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall. Vickerie, who was represented by attorney Tiffany Jeffrey, was subsequently freed.

It was alleged that the child was among three persons who were picked up by the accused. After the other persons were dropped off, Vickerie allegedly took the 13-year-old to a secluded area and forced himself on her. The teen reportedly complained about stomach pains to her parents, which led to an investigation being carried out and Vickerie being arrested.

After being charged in September 2018, he was released on $400,000 bail.
