Centuries from Kemol Savory, Andrew Lyght Jr., Amir Khan and Dwayne Adams highlighted first-round proceedings in this year’s New Building Society (NBS), Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) second-division, forty-overs tournament yesterday.

Adams (125) and Khan (116) spearheaded Everest’s 392-run win over Ace Warriors. Everest batted first and rocketed to 434 before being dismissed in the 39th over on the back of centuries from Adams and Khan while Richie Looknaught (88) supported.

Rawle Enmore (5-71) spearheaded Ace Warrior’s effort with the ball. However, they were scuttled out for 42 with Saeed Mohammed (5-10), Raylex Payne (2-25) and Javed Rasheed (1-1) leading the rout.

Over at Eve Leary, Police defeated Sophia by 240 runs. That script saw Police winning the toss and electing to bat after which they piled on 359-4 from their allotted overs.

Savory (138) and Lyght Jr., (130) were in sublime form as Mark Nedd took 3-31 for Sophia who were dismissed for 119 in response. Parnell London (4-53), Visual Jaigobin (3-7) and Darson LaRose (2-22) were the men who ticked the wickets column for the host.

Meanwhile, host Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), recorded a 21-run win over the Transport Sports Club (TSC) on the back of match-winning efforts from Carlton Jacques and skipper Ashmead Nedd.

DCC won the toss and elected to bat and were staring down the barrel at 54 for eight after Joel Spooner (4-21), Akeem Redman (2-28), and Kevin Ross (2-35) wrecked the top order.

The latter removed Joshua Persaud (00) and Raymond Perez (00) in the first over. They were spared being dismissed for an embarrassing total after a 71-run 10th wicket stand between Jacques (89) and Dexter George (21) propelled the side to a competitive 178 all out.

Transport, in response, folded for 157 after being well placed at 144-3. Sunil Singh (69) and Jamal Wilson (49) gave their side an ideal start and kept them in the hunt before they were dismissed.

Ashmead Nedd (4-27), Steven Sankar (2-50) and George (1-9) delivered economical spells which propelled their side over the line in what was an exciting low scoring bout.
