The Regional Health Director of Region Six, Jevaughn Stephens, yesterday informed the Regional Democratic Council that the water ambulance which was commissioned in August for the community of Baracara is in need of an engine control module (‘computer box’) for its engine.

The issue was raised by the Zamal Hussain, Chairman of the region’s health committee, who told the council that he was informed that the ambulance has not yet been in operation but is covered and parked in New Amsterdam.

Regional Chairman, David Armogan, then requested Director Stephens who was present at yesterday’s statutory meeting to provide some clarity on the issue. Stephens explained, “We weren’t getting enough revs from the ambulance so [the] ministry engineering department ordered a new ‘computer box’ for the engine.”

According to Stephens, he was told on Monday that the ambulance should be fixed on Sunday and then the ambulance will be going back into Baracara.

The water ambulance was commissioned in late August by Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence, and was expected to be in operation the day after the commissioning ceremony, which was held in Berbice.
