The police are on the hunt for a person of interest in the murder of Darrell Breedy, the Festival City man who was shot dead last Saturday after masked bandits invaded his home.

Crime Chief (ag) Michael Kingston yesterday told Stabroek News that while the police have not been able to make any arrests in relation to the matter as yet, they are currently pursuing a person of interest.

Fifty-three-year-old Breedy, who worked as a tout outside the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, was shot once in his abdomen when masked bandits invaded his Lot 2037 Hummingbird Street, Festival City home around 3.30 am on Saturday. He died on spot.

Kingston had previously informed Stabroek News that initial investigations revealed that two bandits broke into Breedy’s home.

“He [Breedy] woke up, there was massive resistance and he was shot,” Kingston had said.

The bandits managed to escape with a television and $11,000 in cash. They gained entry to Breedy’s house through a window situated on the eastern side of the house.

Breedy was discovered lying face down in the kitchen in a pool of blood. He was shot once.

He was discovered by his daughter, who resided with him in the bottom flat of the two-storey building, which he also shared with his wife.

Breedy’s son, Keron King, said that he heard the gunshot but didn’t realise it came from his home.  “After I hear the gunshot, me sista run up the step and seh ‘Daddy just get shoot, call the ambulance,’” King said.

He said when he rushed downstairs, he saw Breedy’s lifeless body in a pool of blood.
