SBF Petroleum/CGI Jaguars 50-over Franchise League launched

The SBF Petroleum-sponsored Cricket Guy Incorporated (GCI) Jaguars 50 overs Franchise League was officially launched yesterday with the defending champions Essequibo coming up against former champions, Georgetown in the opening round tomorrow.

At a simple ceremony at  the Guyana Cricket Board, Regent Street, Chief Executive Officer of the sponsors, Dorwin Bess, expressed the company’s excitement of being a part of the league.

“SBF is excited to be a part of this tournament and happy to assist in the development of youths,” Bess said.

He added that the company that has been in existence for five years is not limited to this sponsorship but is looking forward to expanding on this as they push their goal of developing talent through sports.

Meanwhile, Chairman of CGI, Anand Kalladeen, thanked the sponsors for coming on board as he related that this tournament will be used as preparation for the Regional Super50 next month.

The chairman explained that the tournament has allowed over 100 players each season to come out and stake their claim for national selection and has helped in making Guyana one of the most formidable teams in the region.

Territorial Development Officer of the Guyana Cricket Board, Colin Stuart posited that the tournament is expected to be filled with keen competition judging from the performances by the local players in the Caribbean Premier League.

The League bowls off tomorrow with Essequibo facing Georgetown in a blockbuster affair at the Georgetown Cricket Club from 09.30 hours. This contest has built a lot of traction in the past with the likes of Anthony Adams, Keemo Paul, Kemol Savory, Ronsford Beaton, Leon Johnson, Christopher Barnwell, Raymond Perez and others taking to the field.

Also, East Coast will battle West Berbice at Lusignan, East Bank will face Lower Corentyne at Albion and West Demerara will take on Upper Corentyne at Port Mourant.
