(Trinidad Express) A thief with a firearm ripped a gold chain off the neck of a woman holding a baby in South Oropouche on Tuesday.

Police believe the thief followed the woman into a bakery where the armed robbery took place.

Video footage circulating on social media showed that around 2.03 p.m. the man wearing dark clothing and red shoes walked into Soft Bike bakery at Harris Village.

The man pulled out a firearm from his clothing and pointed it at the woman with the baby in her arms.

The thief grabbed the woman’s gold chain and tugged at it.

At first the woman, a 24 year old of South Oropouche, seemingly did not notice the firearm and advanced towards the thief to fight back.

The thief made several steps backwards although holding the firearm.

However when the woman came face to face with the gun she retreated.

The thief picked up the gold chain, which police said was valued at $15,000, from the floor.

Another woman, with a child standing behind her, also threw cash on a table.

The thief also picked up that money and walked out.

A report was made to the Oropouche Police Station and PC Maharaj and others responded.

A search was made for the thief but no one was arrested.
