Taxi driver murdered in Tobago

(Trinidad Guardian) Tobago Homicide Officers are probing the circumstances surrounding the island’s eighth murder for 2019.

Police have identified the victim as Dean O’Neil, 40, a PH Taxi Driver of Delaford, Tobago.

According to police reports, shortly after 1 am on Thursday, O’Neil was driving his red Mitsubishi Lancer motor vehicle, when he turned onto a trace off Canaan Feeder Road, where he was shot by a lone gunman.

Neighbours say they heard several shots and on checking, he was found slumped behind the steering wheel.

Guardian Media understands that CCTV footage allegedly showed a white vehicle pulling alongside him, a man exiting with a firearm, firing several shots and then the man returning to his vehicle and speeding off.

O’Neil received several shots about the body, he died at the scene.

District Medical Officer Dr. Chima visited the scene and ordered the body removed to the Scarborough Hospital Mortuary.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Police say they are working on several theories and motives for the killing.

Tobago Homicide Bureau is continuing investigations.
