McBean now Region Three police commander

Recently reinstated Assistant Commissioner of Police Simon McBean has been assigned as the Commander of Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) effective from Friday.

Stabroek News was reliably informed that McBean has replaced Senior Superintendent Lin-den Lord who now heads Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni). The shake-up was done in order to fill the void left by Assistant Com-missioner Kevin Adonis, who will be heading into pre-retirement leave soon.

Adonis was the Commander of Region Seven.

He is among a number of senior police officers who will be heading into retirement by the end of this year. Commissioner of Police Leslie James on Friday told reporters that a succession plan is in place to replace these officers.

“…I have put in place a succession plan so whenever persons would have proceeded into retirement, we have persons who, in fact, even before they would have proceeded into retirement, we have persons who understudy them,” James said.

He noted that the next set of promotions is likely next month.

In mid-September, Adonis and McBean were among four members of the Guyana Police Force who were promoted by the by the Police Service Com-mission. The two other ranks were Head of the Immigration Department, Senior Superintendent Ewart Wray and Assistant Superintendent Jermaine Dufu.

In last June this year, McBean was reinstated almost 10 years after he was wrongfully dismissed from the Guyana Police Force.

The then 35-year-old had received marching orders in 2009, almost a year after he had already returned to Guyana from studies abroad and resumed duties. It was alleged that he made an unauthorised decision to proceed on “no pay leave” to further his studies. At the time of his dismissal, he had already dedicated 17 years of his life to the force.
