The car, PXX 7706, which struck down Vidur Anauge, was set on fire.

Stabroek News was reliably informed that the driver reported to the Suddie Police Station around 5 am yesterday and he was taken into custody. He is assisting with investigations.

This newspaper was told that investigations by police have revealed that at the time of the accident, the car was proceeding north along the western side of the public road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed.

Anauge was heading in the same direction on his bicycle.

While passing Anauge, the car collided with one of the wheels of the bicycle, causing him to be thrown some distance away. As a result, Anauge sustained multiple injuries about his body including to his head. He was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Suddie Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The remains of the burnt car.

Omawattie Singh, called ‘Asha,’ who is Anauge’s widow, yesterday said she was still trying to accept his death.

“It very hard… he (the driver) didn’t stay fah help him or whatever, just leave him just like that and bruk up he whole body,” she cried.

Singh explained that she and Anauge were together at a wedding celebration in the neighbouring community of Adventure.

Singh said at the time of the accident, Anauge was returning home. She said he left the wedding without informing her.

The grieving woman said that her husband was left lying on the roadway for about two hours after the accident until the police arrival.

She said when the police arrived, there was a further delay due to the absence of a vehicle.

“Like the police them didn’t doing the job at all because when this accident happen like two hour after then the police them come. When they come, they don’t have a vehicle. When you ask them fah take the body to the hospital, them say that how if we want them carry the body on their shoulder,” Singh explained.

Just several months ago, Singh lost her son, Rajendra Anauge, in a similar manner.

Stabroek News had reported that 19-year-old Rajendra lost his life on January 18th after he was struck down by an intoxicated driver.

Singh said that she has since accepted a sum of $3.5 million in compensation. “I settle the story because like I can’t take it to go to the court,” she noted.

However, she said as it relates to her husband’s death, she is calling for justice.  “Oh God I need real justice, real justice this time,” Singh cried.
