Gordon Edghill, the driver who allegedly struck down and killed 40-year-old Vidur Anauge along the Adventure, Essequibo Coast Public Road on Monday night, was yesterday granted a total of $315,000 bail after being charged with two traffic offences.

Edghill, 30, a welder of Lot 78 Onderneeming Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast, is accused of driving motor car PXX 7706 in manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Anauge on November 4th.

He was also charged with failing to render assistance after the accident.

Edghill appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the first charge. He denied the second.

The case was adjourned until December 20th.

Anauge, a father of two of Onderneeming Sandpit, Essequibo Coast, died on Monday night after he was struck down while returning home from a wedding celebration.

The accident occurred around 8.40pm, after which Edghill allegedly abandoned his car and fled. The car was subsequently set alight by an unknown person or persons.

Edghill reported to the Suddie Police Station around 5 am the following day and he was taken into custody.

An autopsy showed that Anauge died as a result of multiple injuries.

Stabroek News was previously told that investigations by police revealed that at the time of the

accident, the car was proceeding north along the western side of the public road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed.

Anauge was heading in the same direction on his bicycle.

While passing Anauge, the car collided with one of the wheels of the bicycle, causing him to be thrown some distance away.

As a result, Anauge sustained multiple injuries about his body including to his head. He was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Suddie Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Omawattie Singh, called ‘Asha,’ Anauge’s widow, had told this newspaper that she and Anauge were together at a wedding celebration in the neighbouring community of Adventure.

Singh said at the time of the accident, Anauge was returning home. She said he left the wedding without informing her.

The grieving woman said that her husband was left lying on the roadway for about two hours after the accident until the police arrival.

She said when the police arrived, there was a further delay due to the absence of a vehicle.

Just several months ago, Singh lost her son, Rajendra Anauge, in a similar manner.

Stabroek News had reported that 19-year-old Rajendra lost his life on January 18th after he was struck down by an intoxicated driver.

Singh said that she has since accepted a sum of $3.5 million in compensation. “I settle the story because like I can’t take it to go to the court,” she had noted.

The woman had said she is seeking justice for her husband.
