University of Guyana suffered a two-wicket defeat at the hands of Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s New Building Society 40-over second-division tournament on Saturday.

Playing at the Woolford Avenue-based MYO, UG opted to bat first and piled on 210 in 32 overs. Their innings was led by an unbeaten 55 from Ricardo David who struck seven fours and two sixes in his knock.

David was supported by Andrew Gibson with 31, decorated with seven boundaries and cameos from Yogi Singh (27)) and Ershad Ali (22).

Spinners, Timur Mohamed (3-39), Shafiek Ishmael (2-25) and Christopher Surat (2-31) were the principal wicket takers for MYO.

MYO were off to a bad start when Ishmael was run out and Khemraj Ramdeen was dismissed without a run on the board.

However, Rudolph Singh played a composed innings to steer his side over the line.

Singh was brutal in his knock of 73 as he smashed 10 fours and two sixes. Singh shared in a half century stand with Richard Latif who made 32, consisting of five fours and one six while finishing off proceedings with an unbroken half century stand with Naveed Ali (31 not out) as MYO finished on 212-8 in 32 overs.

Kerrie Henry was the most successful bowler with 3-41 as Ali and Paul supported with two wickets.
