Traditional giant Sparta Boss, newcomer Rio All-Stars and Beterverwagting (BV) secured commanding wins, when the inaugural Rio Indoor Street-ball Championship commenced on Thursday.

Hosted in front of a sizable crowd at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, Sparta Boss made light work of Melanie compliments of a 5-0 scoreline.

Deon Alfred led the rout with a double in the second and 13th minute while the versatile Sheldon Shepherd added a brace in the 8th and 15th minute.

Rounding out the score in the seventh minute was Gregory Richardson. Meanwhile Rio All-Stars sent a stern warning to the rest of the playing field, brushing aside perennial contender Back Circle 3-0.  It was a clinical showing from the debutants who clearly displayed their championship aspirations following conversions from Job Caesar, Jermaine Junior and Jahaal Greaves in the second, 12th and 14th minute respectively.

Likewise, BV dismissed LA Ballers 4-1. Akin Curry bagged a double in the 12th and 15th minute while Delroy Dean and Tyrice Dennis netted in the fifth and 19th minute apiece.

For the loser, Leon Richardson recorded what proved to be a consolation goal in the eighth minute. In other results, Broad Street edged Tiger Bay 2-1.

Akeem Sam and Andres Hince found the back of the net in fifth and 12th minute respectively. For the loser, Wendell Austin netted in the 17th minute.

Also Spot-7 defeated Buxton Diamond via walkover. Due to their failure to take the playing area, Buxton Diamond has been disqualified for the event and will be replaced by a reserve team.
