Headless body of Brazilian man found at Lethem

Police in Lethem were yesterday morning summoned to the Tabatinga road in Lethem, Region Nine, where the headless body of a Brazilian man, which bore multiple stab wounds, was discovered.

The dead man has been identified as Dico Davi Roberto Moreira, 22, of Bon Fim, Brazil. He was reportedly killed in a dispute over a bicycle. The suspect has been identified as a 17-year-old Bon Fim resident, who is reportedly Moreira’s cousin.

Region Nine Police Commander Keithon King told Stabroek News that the suspect is on the run. Moreira’s body was found headless and with multiple stab wounds. Both of his wrists were partially severed, the commander revealed.

He said that investigators believe that Moreira was murdered at one location and the body was later dumped at the road, which leads to the bridge that spans the Takutu River, the border between Guyana and Brazil.

The commander said that the police was summoned to the scene at around 7.30 am yesterday. Information gathered by the police revealed that Moreira and his cousin were involved in a dispute last week over a bicycle.

The cousin, while in the company of friends, King said, reportedly visited Moreira’s home and threatened to kill him.

The suspect had allegedly stolen a bicycle which belonged to Moreira’s mother and sold it in Lethem. The bicycle was, however, retrieved and returned to Moreira’s mother.

King said the body was identified yesterday morning by the deceased’s sister from a tattoo on the left hand.

Police investigations are continuing.
