Cops still hunting teen suspect in decapitation of Brazilian at Lethem

Police in Lethem are still on the hunt for the teen suspect in the murder of Brazilian national Dico Davi Roberto Moreira, Police Commander of Region Nine Keithon King has said.

King yesterday told Stabroek News that investigators have been on the hunt for the suspect but had not been able to locate him as yet.

He further explained that they were also awaiting the results of an autopsy that is scheduled to be conducted on Monday.

Stabroek News on Monday reported that the headless body of Moreira was found along Tabatinga road in Lethem, Region Nine, with multiple stab wounds. Both of his wrists were partially severed, the commander revealed.

Moreira, 22, of Bon Fim, Brazil, was reportedly killed in a dispute over a bicycle. The suspect has been identified as a 17-year-old Bon Fim resident, who is reportedly Moreira’s cousin.

King said that investigators believe that Moreira was murdered at one location and the body was later dumped at the road which leads to the Takutu bridge.

Information gathered by the police revealed that Moreira and his cousin were involved in a dispute last week over a bicycle.

The cousin, while in the company of friends, King said, reportedly visited Moreira’s home and threatened to kill him.

The suspect had allegedly stolen a bicycle which belonged to Moreira’s mother and sold it in Lethem. The bicycle was, however, retrieved and returned to Moreira’s mother.

King said the body was identified by the deceased’s sister from a tattoo on the left hand.
