Venezuelan stabbed to death by cycle bandit at Grove

A 22-year-old Venezuelan national was fatally stabbed early yesterday morning after he attempted to fend off two bicycle bandits who attacked him on the Grove, East Bank Demerara Public Road.

Dead is Woillian Fores, a resident of Post Office Street, Grove, EBD.

Fores was stabbed twice during the incident which occurred around 1.05am.  He was rushed to the Diamond Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan, in a press release yesterday said that investigators are currently on the hunt for the two suspects.

Enquiries, the police said revealed that suspects who were on bicycles approached Fores who was sitting on the western side of the public road.

One of the suspects, who was brandishing a knife, demanded that Fores hand over his belongings, the police added.

As a result, a scuffle ensued between Fores and the bandits during which he was stabbed.

When Stabroek News visited the scene yesterday, residents in the area said they learnt of the incident hours after it occurred.

Many said they did not know Fores.

This newspaper learnt that Fores’ family resides in Venezuela. Reports are that he came here to seek employment. Thousands of Venezuelans have come here in the last two years seeking to escape the hardships in their homeland.
