Six arrested as cops find guns, ammo

Police arrested six persons on Thursday after separate intelligence-led operations resulted in the discovery of four guns and a quantity of live ammunition.

In a press release, the force stated that in the first operation, officers, acting on information, went to a location at Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt just around 10.45 am and subsequently conducted a search on a man and discovered an unlicensed pistol along with two live rounds.

It was noted that the 20-year-old man was subsequently arrested.

A second operation was carried out at First Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara, where the police discovered three unlicensed handguns along with 25 live rounds. The intelligence-led operation, which was spearheaded by a Senior Superintendent, also saw the police discovering a small quantity of cannabis. The police noted that five persons, including two women who obstructed the officers as they executed their duties, were arrested.
