Unbeaten sides Sparta Boss, Gold is Money, Rio All-Stars, Leopold Street and Bent Street stormed their way into the knockout round of the Inaugural Rio Indoor Street-ball Championship, following wins on Saturday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
Sparta Boss ended the group round with a perfect record, after defeating Alexander Village 3-1. The trio of Gregory Richardson, Ryan Hackett and Nicholas MacArthur netted in the fifth, seventh and 11th minute apiece. For the loser, Kacy John scored in the eighth minute.
Similarly Gold is Money squeaked past Sophia 1-0. Josiah Charles found the back of the net in the eighth minute. On the other hand, newcomer Rio All-Stars dismantled Spot-7 by a 5-0 scoreline. Kelsey Benjamin led the rout with a brace in the sixth and 12th minute.
Assisting with goals were Job Caesar, Jermin Junior and Andrew Murray in the ninth, 16th and 18th minute respectively. Similarly, Leopold Street crushed Ol Skool 5-1. Emerging star Dorwin George was the architect of the rout with a hat trick in the eighth, ninth and 18th minute.
The other conversions came off the boots of Mark Jhalu and Darren Benjamin in the fourth and seventh minute apiece. On target in the loss was Timothy Thomas who netted in the 13th minute. Likewise, Bent Street brushed aside BV 5-0 compliments of a Colin Nelson helmet trick in the fifth, seventh, 12th and 16th minute.
Completing the lopsided result was Pernell Schultz in the ninth minute. Meanwhile in other results, Albouystown made light work of Stabroek Ballers 4-1 and Gaza Squad battled to a 2-2 stalemate with Island All-Stars. The tournament continues on Thursday at the same venue. The results follow:
