Berbice rapid chess Open set for Sunday

The Berbice Chess Association will host the R. Sookraj and Sons Outback Adventures rapid chess Open tournament Sunday at the University of Guyana, Tain Campus, Berbice.

The seven-round Swiss system tournament, will see players making their opening move in round one at 10.00 hours with registration beginning one hour prior.

According to the organisers, there will be a 20-minute allocation per player with the registration fee set at $500 for adults and $200 for youth players. The event will see the top three players receiving cash and trophies while a special prize has been allocated for the best Berbice player and best junior player.

According to President of the Berbice Chess Association, Krishnanand Raghunandan, the event is highly anticipated in the Ancient County with the county’s top players eager to face off against the higher rated players from Georgetown and against themselves.

Raghunandan added that the competition will help to increase the level of the sport in Berbice.

He thanked the sponsors for choosing to help develop the sport.
