Fourth person who perished in Nismes crash identified as Patentia woman

The fourth person who died in the Nismes, West Bank Demerara collision between a minibus and a car on Saturday night has been identified as Zavira Jona called ‘Theresa’, 22, of Patentia.

The crash also claimed the lives of Ayesha Sealey, 27; the driver of the car, Paul Glen, 52; and Maria Bisnauth, 12.

According to a police press release, initial investigations revealed that the accident occurred just around 7:20 pm on Saturday and involved a minibus, BYY 2981 and motorcar, PTT 691. The minibus was proceeding north along the western carriageway of the road at a fast rate of speed while in the vicinity of a gas station. The car, meanwhile, was exiting the gas station in a south eastern direction in the path of the bus, the release said.

The police said that consequently the right front portion of the minibus collided with the right front door of the car. The collision saw both vehicles being flung in an eastern direction and into a nearby drain. A number of persons who were occupants of the minibus were injured. Those persons were identified as Sharafa Bichai, 31; Leon Marks, 26; Salame Marks, 27; Keisha Washington, 32; Lashona Anthony, 19; Avin Naranjan, 38; Devine Naranjan, 7; Aaron Naranjan, 14; Mark Ambrose, 39; Baroda Manual; Mark Anthony, 22; Boodram, 53; Kerry Allen, 33; Patula Taylor, 40; and Shawn Thomas, 34. It was reported that the driver of the minibus, Hensley Allen was also admitted as a patient at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

When Stabroek News visited the site of the crash yesterday, debris including glass, vehicle parts, clothing, shoes and bags were seen. The gas station has a number of cameras which employees revealed are working.

Police Commander of Region Three, Simon McBean, revealed to Stabroek News that up to yesterday, the death toll as a result of the accident remains the same and some of the injured persons were still in a serious condition at the hospital. When asked about the possibility of police obtaining video footage, he said that he believes that this would be part of the initial investigation but he would not be able to say if there were cameras pointed in the direction where the collision occurred.
