Rutherford re-elected GCUSA President

Veteran match official, Arleigh Rutherford, was recently re-elected unopposed as  president of the Georgetown Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association (GCUSA) when the body held its Annual General Meeting at Union Hall Building, Woolford Avenue.

Regional umpires, Ryan Banwarie and Javed Persaud are the vice-president and treasurer respectively.

Karen Bobb-Semple Weatherspoon will repeat as Secretary with Stephon Josiah functioning as Assistant Secretary/Treasurer.

Kelvin Morris has been tasked with the duties of the Public Relations Officer while Heuvel Cunha, Totaram Moses Ramnarine, Deon Feassal and Nadir Baksh were elected Committee Members.

According to Rutherford, who reflected on the previous term, the membership was able to conduct a course in order to better able serve Georgetown Cricket Association by providing adequate umpires for their competitions and create a competitive environment.

The body also committed to extending its annual “Continuing Umpiring Education” programme.

Rutherford pointed out that the year also included the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association Convention where Guyana was well represented.

He extended congratulations to the members who have advanced to higher levels of the gentleman’s game.

Rutherford, whose initiative has resulted in ‘clothes for a cause’ where members provide clothes for the needy also told the members to encourage others to join the profession.
