Guyana Floodlight U15 cricket team (GFL) defeated AK Academy by eight wickets in their second match of the third US Youth Open tournament but suffered loses against Presentation College and Central Zonal yesterday.

Playing in the United States of America at the multipurpose facility in Florida, their victorious match was reduced to a 15-over affair. GFL won the toss and sent in AK Academy to take first strike. AK Academy were contained to 43 for 7 from their allotted overs. Alvin Mohabir and Stephon Sankar took two wickets each for GFL.

In reply, 20 from Mavindra Dindyal and 13 from his opening partner, Romeo Deonarain set the platform for an easy win as GFL reached 44-2 in just 3.2 overs.

However, against Presentation College GFL fell to a four-wicket defeat. Winning the toss and opting to bat, GFL were restricted to 113-5 in their 20 overs. Once again Deonarain (28) and Dindyal (24) provided a pivotal 43-run opening partnership but only Nicholas Sheopersaud (32) and Jonathan Van Lange (13) had any other meaningful contribution.

A 27-ball 66 from opener Khaleem Mohammed then took the game away from GFL. Mohammed’s knock featured six sixes and four fours and he gained support from Nickyle Jalim (16) and Aidan Batchansingh (12) as his side reached 115-6 with 11 balls to spare.

In their most recent match, GFL were unfortunate to fall two runs short against Central Zonal Council.

GFL won the toss and sent Central in to bat. They posted 109-5 with Dindyal and Zachary Jodah picking up two wickets each.

Dindyal returned with bat in hand to blast 70 from 56 balls including five fours and four sixes but only Jodah and John Persaud with 10 runs each reached double figures as GFL only managed 107-6 in their 20 overs.

GFL will play their final match against Presentation College today.
