All systems in place for Dragon Stout Street-ball final

With Saturday set for the final of the inaugural Dragon Stout Street-ball ‘Community Cup’, tournament coordinator and Dragon Stout Brand Manager Jamal Baird has confirmed that all systems are in place for the hosting of the event at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.

“We are expecting a monumental night of action on Saturday, the four remaining teams are the best at the moment and are highly supported by their communities and the respective football fans so I envision a phenomenal atmosphere which will provide a memorable night,” said Baird.

“All systems are in place and I am truly enthusiastic for the final night, as we aim to conclude 2019 with the proverbial bang. This tournament is the start of a project which I believe can benefit the players and catapult the brand into being a staple within the Streetball family. The tournament provides the ideal platform for the development of players through a competitive but friendly environment,” he added.

 Baird said the aim was to ensure a memorable evening  of football.

“Once against I want to reiterate to the spectators and players that all structures and protocols have been finalized and formulated to ensure another memorable evening of play. I also want to thank the fans and players for their unwavering support which has transcended into making the tournament a success. Praise must also be afforded to the lawmen who have acted professionally and have carried out their duties diligently, thus ensuring that a safe environment and incident free tournament is realised.”

 The opening semi-final at 20:00hrs will pit Bent Street against newcomer Rio All-Stars while the second semi-final will witness Sparta Boss battling fierce rival Leopold Street from 21:00hrs. Winners of the respective fixtures will progress to the championship match. The losers will contest the third place playoff.

  Winner of the tournament will pocket $300,000 and the championship trophy. On the other hand, the runner-up will collect $150,000. Meanwhile the third and fourth place finisher will receive $75,000 and $50,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
