Poor work being done on Karasabai access road

Dear Editor,

It is with the greatest frustration and disgust that I pen this letter to your paper on behalf of my fellow residents of Karasabai village in the South Pakaraimas. The relevant authority and the subject minister must intervene in this matter forthwith.

First of all we must thank the APNU+AFC government for making an effort to improve our road network from Santa Fe ranch into Karasabai Village. We are aware of the fact that millions of dollars would be spent to maintain this access road which is very important for us and also to residents of Region Eight in the North Pakaraimas.

Unfortunately, the person who was awarded this contract to execute this very important initiative, appears to be inexperienced and is not familiar with the terrain that witnesses severe flooding at its watershed during the rainy season. This warrants professional engineering skills to place a number of culverts at several points that are vulnerable to overtopping by water.

This particular area also produces a vastly different type of soil containing clay that makes the road network impassable for transportation services during the rainy season, hence creating severe hardships for us all.

It is also evident that this contractor does not have the capacity to transport the right type of materials to effect and complete the work in its scheduled time.

This contractor is scraping the road instead of building it, thus creating a flooding channel suitable for boats and not vehicles.

Editor, in the circumstances, the government should revoke this contract from this awardee, before embarrassment is placed at the doorstep of our government.

These substandard practices produced by these contractors to our road network in remote areas must come to an end.

The Brazilians on the other hand, are executing a fine job on our road infrastructure. No doubt they have the knowledge, having already proven this by providing great services to Region Nine.

Better to be late than sorry!

Yours faithfully,
