Yearwood, bowlers secure semi-final spot for MSC

A half-century from national youth batsman Shamar Yearwood which was backed up by his side’s bowlers secured a semi-final spot for the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) who defeated GNIC by 61 runs in the final round of the GCA/American Youth Premier Cricket League Under-19 Cricket Competition, at MSC yesterday.

MSC batting first, posted 156-6 from their allotted 30 overs. Yearwood led the way with an unbeaten innings of 51 while Wayne McPherson (20) supported in the rain-affected match.

Jeremiah Benjamin (1-19) and Joel Fortune (1-24) were the pick of the bowlers for GINC who in reply, was cruising along at 70 without loss before being skittled out for 95 inside 22 overs, losing 10 wickets for 25 runs in the process.

The solid opening stand was built around Orlando Jilal (36) and skipper Dwain Dick (24). However, leg spinner Wayne Bollers (3-11) and off-spinner Tathwesh Shivarattan (3-17) combined to take six wickets that orchestrated the routing for MSC.

MSC will now take on the U.S based Tri-State unit today at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground in the semi-final. That encounter will bowl off from 09:30hrs.
