The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) yesterday recorded contrasting wins in the latest round of the New Building Society 40-over,  second-division tournament.

DCC, playing at home, thumped Sophia by 10 wickets after their bowlers routed the visitors for 62 in 14 overs. National under 19 bowlers Qumar Torrington and Daniel Mootoo picked up 3-14 and 3-8 respectively to lead their side’s bowling effort. DCC, in response, raced to 63-0 in six overs as Shamar Yearwood (25) and Brandon Jaikaran (16) punished the Sophia bowlers.

Meanwhile, over at MSC, the host defeated GYO by 110 runs on the back of a brilliant all-round performance by Marcus Watkins. GYO, at the top of the day, won the toss and invited MSC to take first strike. They went on to post 248 before being dismissed in the 35th over with Watkins (63) and Shemroy Barrington (52) stroking half centuries. The pair of right handers received support from Jeremiah Scott (45) and Nickosie Barker (35) who both missed out on reaching personal milestones.

Divesh Ramjattan (3-24)  who collected a hat trick and Trevon France (2-27) were the pick of the bowlers for GYO who, in response, folded for 135 as Watkins returned to nab 5-32 while Mervin Permaul (2-28) supported. France wielded his willow down at the bottom to top score with 37 as Joshua Ramsammy (20) and Michale Deonarine (20) failed to kick on.
