Cracking centuries from Kemol Savory and Quentin Samson propelled the Police Sports Club (PSC) to first innings honours over the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) as the two sides played to an exciting draw in the latest round of the Georgetown Cricket Association Noble House Seafoods second-division, two-day cricket competition yesterday.
Police, who resumed the day on 98-2, trailing by 242 runs, reached 374-9 before declaring their innings closed after surpassing DCC’s 340-9 declared.
The inning was built around a vicious century from Savory who cracked an attractive 132 from 139 deliveries.
His knock included 17 fours and three sixes. The crafty left-hander shared in a 167-run stand with Sampson who lit up DCC with 124 from 57 balls.
He blasted 10 fours and the same amount of sixes to exact revenge from the harsh treatment meted out to Police bowlers during DCC’s first innings.
Daniel Mootoo (3-62) was the pick of the bowlers while Qumar Torrington (2-67) and Dexter George (2-75) were also among the wickets.
The day ended with DCC reaching 68-1 after 7.4 overs with Raymond Perez picking up where he left off in DCC’s first innings, ending unbeaten on 47 as the match ended in a tame draw.
Scores in the match: DCC 340-9 declared: Perez 159, Nkosi Beaton 53, Pernell London 3-49 and 67-1: Perez 47 drew against Police: 374-9 declared, (Savory 132, Samson 124, Mootoo 3-62).
Meanwhile, over at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), the host completed an innings and 102- run win over Ace Warriors on day two. The day began with Ace Warriors, resuming on 45 – 5, being bundled out for 84 with Nkosi Barker nabbing 6-34.
Only Asif Baksh (14) and Robert Davis (11) showed fight during their last-wicket stand.
