Barnwell (173), Dindyal (110) set up DCC vs GCC 1st Division final

Centuries from Demerara Cricket Club’s (GCC) Christopher Barnwell and Georgetown Cricket Club’s (DCC) Mavendra Dindyal in the semi-finals of the Georgetown Cricket Association GISE/Star Party Rental/Trophy Stall First-Division tournament ensured the two sides a spot in the final.

Over at the historic GCC ground, Bourda, the hosts pummeled a depleted Police Sports Club into the ground to secure first innings points after containing Police to 142 for nine in 30.3 overs and posting 344 for eight declared. Police, in their second innings then saw the game to a close with 66 without loss from 6.4 overs when the match ended. Kevon Boodie (34 not out) and Andrew Lyght Jr., (30 not out) were at the crease when the match closed.

Ronsford Beaton and Quentin Sampson rocked the GCC top order early, sending back openers, Winston Forrester and Ryan Hemraj for five runs each.

But Dindyal anchored the innings well with a composed 110 from 116 balls, effortlessly piercing the nine-man field with 13 boundaries before being run out attempting a single.

The 17-year-old right-hander added 128 for the third wicket with Zachary Jodah who made 33 from 87 balls before retiring hurt. Alimohamed showed his skills with the bat, smashing three sixes and four fours on his way to a blistering 52 from 36 balls. The national all-rounder added 68 for the eighth wicket with Martin Pestano-Belle who also chalked up his half century; reaching 54 not out from 62 balls, highlighted by four boundaries before GCC declared.

Regular wicketkeeper, Kemol Savory, picked up 3-52 bowling leg-spin while Eon Rodrigues ended with 2-33 with his off-spin. Earlier, at the start of the day’s play, Police resumed on 90 for seven and Sampson converted his overnight score of 28 to 63 decorated with seven sixes and four fours before handing Alimohammed his fourth wicket. Alimohamed ended with 4-32 from 11 overs. Left-arm spinners, Devon Lord and Stephon Wilson picked up two wickets each for 18 and 28 runs respectively.

Over at Everest Cricket Club, the hosts won the toss and inserted DCC who piled on 329 for six before declaring after 77.3 overs

Amir Khan (2-36) removed Sachin Singh (2) and Coen Ismond (7) while David Williams accounted for Raymond Perez (14) before Barnwell shifted gear and went into his belligerent best, hitting six fours and 13 sixes.

Barnwell shared in a double-century partnership with Raj Nanan who retired hurt on 73 after hitting four boundaries.

While the match ended in a draw, according to officials, DCC advanced by virtue of most outright wins.
