Magistrate to rule on if prima facie case made out

Magistrate Fabayo Azore is expected to rule on whether or not there is sufficient evidence for Davendra Ramdial, who is charged with the 2016 murder of Shonette Savory, to stand trial at the High Court.

Savory of Lot 222 Last Street, Prospect, East Bank Demerara, and a mother of one, left her home on the afternoon of August 29th 2016 and has not been seen or heard from since.

Ramdial, who is said to have been in a relationship with Savory, was charged in 2018 after he allegedly admitted to the offence.

The charge states that Ramdial murdered Savory on August 30, 2016 at Soesdyke.

During the continuation of the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) on January 24 before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, the prosecution’s last and final witness, Dhanraji Murray, testified.  Murray is the mother of Savory.

After she concluded her testimony, the prosecutor closed his case and Ramdial was asked if he had anything to say in relation to the statements that were presented during the PI. He opted to do so. After he concluded, the magistrate told him that she would have to review the evidence that was presented in court and will make a decision whether there is sufficient evidence for him to stand trial at the High Court.

She subsequently adjourned the matter until February 28th, 2020.
