Haslington boy dies after accident

A student of Ann’s Grove Secondary died last night after he was struck down on the Golden Grove Public Road while walking home in the company of his cousins.

Dead is 15-year-old Shamar James of 67, Casareep Man Street, South Haslington, East Coast Demerara.

While details of what transpired remain sketchy, his aunt Fiona James told Stabroek News that her nephew and three of his cousins were walking home when he was struck down by a car. The accident occurred at around 8.30 last night.

“I was home and I hear my nephew got into an accident.  They were walking in the corner and a white car come and hit him and dragged he and drive away,” the aunt recalled.

Shamar was picked up by a public-spirited citizen and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver was later arrested and is presently in police custody assisting with investigations.
