An accident on the Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara claimed the life of a Subryanville motorcyclist on Saturday night.

The dead man has been identified as Everton Bradford Charles, 29, of Lot 282 Earl’s Avenue Subryanville, Georgetown.

Police in a statement yesterday said the accident occurred at approximately 7.30 pm.  Investigations have revealed that a motor lorry was proceeding south on the eastern carriageway allegedly at a high rate of speed, when it collided with motorcycle CJ 5282, which was ridden by Charles.

After the collision, the lorry stopped a short distance away from the point of impact, police said and the driver checked his vehicle. Not observing anything amiss, the driver returned to the lorry and continued on his journey.

Charles was later picked up and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police acting Public Relations Officer Ike Grandison yesterday said that the driver of the motor lorry was arrested and is presently in custody assisting with investigations.  He was arrested on the Soesdyke- Linden Highway.
