Soesdyke man charged with killing brother remanded

A man was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with killing his brother.

Edley Jacobs, 44, was not required to enter a plea to the charge which states that on February 2 at Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara, he unlawfully killed Winford Jacobs. The charge was read to him by Magistrate Rhondel Weaver at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court.

Facts in relation to the matter stated that on the day in question, the accused along with his brother and child’s mother, after consuming alcohol, were walking along the public road where an argument ensued. The argument then became physical and Winford Jacobs attacked the accused with a bottle.

It was stated that Edley was armed with a knife at the time and subsequently stabbed his brother twice about his body causing him to fall onto the roadway. Winford was then rushed to the Diamond Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Magistrate Weaver remanded the man to prison until March 3.
