Recaptured murder accused Terrence Pitt was yesterday sentenced to 12 month in jail after pleading guilty to escaping from police custody.

Pitt, 26, who is also called ‘Shots’ and ‘Sonna Boy,’ appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown to answer to the charge, which stated that between November 11th, 2019 and November 12th, 2019, while being held at the Criminal Investigation Department at Eve Leary, he escaped from custody.

The police prosecutor mentioned that Pitt used a ‘pointer’ from a broom to pick the lock of his handcuffs. The prosecutor added that upon receipt of reliable information, he was subsequently recaptured on January 9th, 2020 in the vicinity of Middle Road, La Penitence.

After the charge was read to him, Pitt pleaded guilty. He was then sentenced by Magistrate McLennan to 12 months in jail.

Pitt, of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, was being held in connection with the murder of Festival City resident Darrell Breedy, who was fatally shot during a home invasion in October of last year.

Stabroek News had previously reported that Breedy, 53, who worked as a tout outside the George-town Magistrates’ Courts, was shot once in his abdomen during a scuffle that ensued after the men entered his home through a window situated on the eastern side of the house.

The matter has been adjourned until February 14th, 2020.
