Ayanna Watson and Christina Kumar retained their female crown at the 2020 GUMDAC Open badminton doubles tournament while Marlon Chung and Darrell Carpenay are the new men’s champions following the conclusion of the tournament at the Guyana National Gymnasium, last evening.
Watson and Kumar came from a set down to work their past Emelia Ramdhani and Anna Perreira 14-21, 21-11, 21-11 in the female final.
The male final was contested between the eventual winners Jonathan Mangra and Avinash Odit.
Mangra and Odit, who lost in 2019 final, began strongly by taking the first set 21-19. That was their last bit of success as Chung and Carpenay surged their way back into the contest by winning the next two sets and title 21-9, 21-19.
The tournament was the badminton association’s first of the year.
