Belmont man found dead in trench

The police are investigating the death of a man, whose body was discovered in a trench at Belmont, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara on Sunday morning.

The man has been identified as Dextroy Barker called `Limpy’, 38, of Lot 24 Second Street, Jonestown, Mahaica.

A police source told Stabroek News that while no foul play is suspected, investigators are awaiting an autopsy report to determine how Barker met his demise.

Stabroek News understands that the discovery was made around 9 am on Sunday by a passerby.

At the time, Barker was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. Two rings and $2000 were found in his possession.

Reports are that Barker had suffered from seizures for the past three years.

He was last seen playing dominoes at a shop in the community with three men after which he left for home on his bicycle.

However, as time passed and he did not returned home, his mother became worried and a missing person’s report was made at the Mahaica Police Station.

Several persons were questioned as the police continue their investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted sometime this week.
