Canal No.1 barber dies after car plunges into trench

A 36-year-old man died on Tuesday morning after he reportedly lost control of his motor vehicle which toppled along Pumpkin Dam, Canal No.1, West Bank Demerara (WBD).

Dead is Ghansham Hardyal called `Ravi’, a barber of Canal No.1, WBD.

Commander of Region 3, Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean confirmed the accident which occurred around 6 am.

According to McBean, reports revealed that Hardyal was proceeding south along Pumpkin Dam in motor vehicle GSS 3864, allegedly at a fast rate when he lost control while approaching a bridge.

As a result, McBean said the vehicle turned turtle before plunging into a nearby canal.

Public-spirited citizens rushed Hardyal to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

At the time, Hardyal was the lone occupant of the vehicle. He was said to be returning home after dropping off some workers for a farmer in the backdam.
