Berbice River ganja traffickers get 18 months after 100lb bust

Two Sandhill, Berbice River residents, who were busted on Monday evening with over 100 pounds of cannabis, were sentenced yesterday to 18 months in jail after they pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of narcotics for trafficking.

Leroy Lindie, 27, a carpenter, of Sandhill, Berbice River, and Michael Bobb, 24, a labourer, also of Sandhill, Berbice River, appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, where the joint charge was read to them.

The charge stated that the on March 30, at Canje Creek, Lindie and Bobb had 48 kilogrammes (equivalent to 105 pounds) of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking in their possession.

The unrepresented men pleaded guilty to the charge.  The two men were arrested after ranks, acting on intelligence, intercepted their boat in the Canje Creek sometime before 10 pm on Monday.

During a subsequent search of the vessel, 24 parcels of the cannabis were discovered, resulting in the arrest of the men.
