Ms. Bikini champion, Chandini Khan is adamant that it is time for Guyanese “to up our game” in the fight against the pandemic, COVID-19.

A staunch advocate of health and fitness, Khan made some muscular remarks recently after the number of local cases jumped to almost 60 as of yesterday.

“With the number of COVID-19 cases on the rise in Guyana, I think it is time we, as Guyanese, up our game in the fight against this infectious disease,” declared the 27 year-old.

Khan opined “With the majority of those cases being in the highly populated Region 4, I am of the belief that we are not well prepared to deal with a rapid increase in the number of infected persons.”

Khan, who is an auditor at the Audit Office of Guyana, continued “Apart from everything being done by governmental and non-governmental organizations to curb the spread of COVID-19, we, the people, play an important role in stopping the spread of this deadly virus.

“I cannot stress enough, how important it is to adhere to all preventive measures outlined by the Ministry of Public Health and the relevant authorities.”

Khan affirmed that it was important that the citizens continue to, “practice social distancing for as much as we can, stay in the safety of our homes for as much as we can, go outdoors when its only absolutely necessary to be outside. We should at all times protect ourselves by wearing masks, sanitizing/washing our hands and avoid touching our eyes, noses or mouths. Practice good respiratory hygiene by covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze then disposing of the used tissue immediately.”

Khan also gave advice on some coping mechanisms for stress during these unprecedented times.

“Because of the sudden outbreak of this global pandemic, I know that we are all suffering in some way or the other, be it mentally, emotionally, physically or even financially. It can be stressful and overwhelming, and how well we cope with this stress will be different for each of us. My advice to all would be:”

– take care of your body by eating healthy, resting well and getting some amount of activity in be it exercising, stretching or even deep breathing

– take the time to unwind by trying to do something that makes you happy/relaxed

take breaks from reading COVID-19 news, this can bring about unnecessary worry.

The bikini champ concluded by stating “This is a tough time for us all, but together we can fight this. The stronger we are together to fight this, I am positive that the faster we can eradicate COVID-19.”
