Biker dies after Goed Fortuin crash

An 18-year-old motorcyclist is now dead and his pillion rider has been hospitalised after they collided with a minibus along the Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara (WBD) Public Road on Saturday morning.

Dead is Mark Seegoolam of Edinburgh, East Bank Berbice (EBB).

The injured man has been identified as Anthony Sohan Mangru, 26 of Lot 446 Recht Door Zee, Parfaite Harmonie, WBD.

The accident occurred around 8 am. At the time, Seegoolam was riding motorcycle, CJ 3165. Mangru was the pillion rider.

Reports reaching Stabroek News revealed that minibus PHH 7184 was proceeding north along the western carriageway of the public road when the driver stopped in front of a residence situated on the western side of the road.

Seegoolam and Mangru were proceeding behind the minibus.

The minibus attempted to change direction (from north to east) when the motorcycle collided with its front door. As a result of the impact, Seegolam and Mangru were thrown onto the roadway and slammed into a parked minibus BNN 5469.

Both men were picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where Seegoolam was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mangru was admitted as a patient. His condition is listed as critical.
