The Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) which participates in Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) organized cricket competitions is the latest entity to extend acts of kindness during the current COVID – 19 pandemic.

MYO, which is located in Woolford Avenue, Thomas Lands, Georgetown, has embarked on the distribution of 500 food hampers to the poor, needy and vulnerable in Guyana.

“This initiative was as a result of bringing much-needed aid to help ease the economic hardships faced by the Coronavirus Pandemic that has plagued the world. The Muslim Youth Organization of Guyana understands the great and enormous pressure and economic and financial stress that the Coronavirus Pandemic has placed on individuals and families throughout Guyana,” the organization stated via a press release.

It added: “These hampers will be distributed across Guyana, namely Wales, Canal No.1 and 2, La Parfaite Harmonie, Windsor Forest, Leguan, Rose Hall, Port Mourant, Canje, Timehri, Kuru Kuru, Peters Hall and Georgetown.”

The organization said that the aim is to provide the food hampers to as many persons as possible as a means of assisting families to provide meals for their household, more so during the Holy Month of Ramadan. Muslims, the organization explained, are encouraged to give charity to the poor and needy during this time.

The organization also expressed gratitude to the many donors who contributed to their food hampers distribution drive.
