Corentyne cyclist dies after struck by hire car

A Corentyne pedal cyclist died after he was struck by a hire car along the Princetown Public Road, Upper Corentyne yesterday.

Dead is Marsha Adiana, 57, of Skeldon Riverside, Upper Corentyne.

According to information gathered, motor car HC 8511, which was being driven by a resident, 25, of Grant 1805 Crabwood Creek, was proceeding south reportedly at a fast rate when he made a sudden swerve and struck the cyclist.

As a result of the impact, the cyclist fell onto the road and sustained serious injuries.

He was rushed in an unconscious state to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police in a statement yesterday noted that a breathalyser test was administered to the driver which revealed that he was below the prescribed alcohol limit.  He is in custody assisting with the investigation.
