Four more Palms residents recover from COVID-19

Four more residents of the Palms Geriatric Home have recovered from the novel coronavirus, bringing the number of recoveries in the institution to seven, according to a release from the Ministry of Social Protection.

The names of the recovered residents were given as: Rosaline Hamilton, 91; Kaysonauth Sager, 76; Meyrle Thomas, 87; and Carmen Hopkinson, 78. They are to be transferred to the infirmary, where they are expected to spend two days before returning to the general ward.

Three remaining patients are being monitored by a medical team and are scheduled to be retested on June 29.

The Ministry praised the teamwork and commitment demonstrated by the ward 6 team as they continue to provide exceptional care to the seniors.

Stabroek News had reported on June 13 that three residents of the Palms Geriatric Home had recovered from the virus. They were identified as Zorie De Mattos, Sheila Gill and Fazil Mohamed.

Dr Yoganand Manoo, who is attached to the Clinical and Technical Department at the Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC), told Stabroek News that the first three residents to recover from the virus, have returned to the general ward.

In May, the institution reported that 12 residents and one patient-care assistant tested positive for the virus. No new case has been recorded since May 23.

Two Palms residents have died from the virus.
