A businesswoman was on Tuesday robbed of over $800,000 in cash and other valuables after bandits broke into her car.

Wanita Ashby, 39, of Alexander Village, Georgetown, said she visited a money transfer location on Light Street before heading to Front Road, West Ruimveldt, where she stopped at a friend to make a call.

She said after completing the call, which lasted just about five minutes, she heard her car alarm going off. The time was 3.38 pm.

Upon enquiring, her friend’s daughter said, “Aunty, the man them knock your car.”

She said, “By the time I run out, they already took off and run through the alleyway,” where a white car was parked and waiting for them. She said she could not see the licence plate number of the getaway car.

The woman said she usually takes her handbag with her when leaving the car, but on that day decided to leave it in the vehicle, since she only planned on spending about five minutes at her friend.

After running the video footage from her car camera, she observed that a car with three men inside was driving behind her as she was en route to her friend’s house. She is currently awaiting confirmation to determine if the three men in her video footage were also the ones who committed the robbery.

The break-in was reported and an investigation is ongoing.
