Aranaputa miner found submerged in well

Police in Region Seven are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a twenty-nine-year-old gold miner of Aranuputa village, Region Nine whose body was found submerged in a well.

The dead man has been identified as Calvin Hamilton, an employee of Hard Rock Mining Company.

Police said that Hamilton died between last Friday and Sunday. Investigations revealed that on Friday last at around 5pm, Hamilton left the campsite and went to Puruni Landing and was seen consuming alcohol.

An eyewitness told police, that Hamilton was at his bar at Puruni Landing consuming alcohol and left at approximately 7pm.

On Sunday afternoon, the eyewitness related that he sent his worker to pump water from his well, which is about four hundred feet away from his yard.

At approximately 5pm, the worker “on arrival at the well observed the deceased’s body submerged facing down, motionless and clad in a white striped jersey and a blue three-quarter pants.”

Police said the body of the deceased was found in a decomposing state with a puncture wound on the lower part of his right leg. The body was escorted to the Bartica Hospital and later transferred to the Lyken funeral home where it is awaiting an autopsy.
