Labourer injured after boats collide in Pomeroon River

A 24-year-old labourer is currently nursing injuries to his head while another was taken into police custody after two boats collided in the Lower Pomeroon River on Friday night.

The injured man has been identified as Raul De Costa.

The incident occurred around 9pm in the vicinity of Grant Anna Regina, Lower Pomeroon River.

Sunday Stabroek understands that Raul Cameron was transporting his cousin home when tragedy struck.

Cameron, a source said, told the police that as he was approaching his destination, he collided with De Costa’s boat, which had no lights. Cameron was reportedly using the light from a torchlight.

Following the collision, Cameron stated that he turned around to render assistance when he saw De Costa lying in his boat. Another occupant, whose identity remains unknown, escaped unhurt.

Cameron told the police that following the collision, water began to enter his boat, so he borrowed his uncle’s boat and transport De Costa to the Charity Hospital.

De Costa was later transferred to the Suddie Hospital, where his condition is listed as serious.

Cameron is presently in custody.
