Ms Singh has been fair and impartial

Dear Editor,

“She is a woman of high standards, moral Integrity, honesty, and has demonstrated loyalty to her office. A person who has made enormous self-sacrifice for Guyana and the Guyanese people and has remained accountable to the process”.

These were the words used to describe the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Justice Claudette Singh by me, Vishnu Bandhu, the leader of the United Republican Party (URP).

Ms. Singh is in receipt of a ten-point petition for her to resign from her current post as Chairperson of GECOM.

The petition is an attempt once again by A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) to derail the electoral process.

It must be remembered that it was both President Granger and the Leader of the Opposition Mr. Jagdeo who agreed they will accept the results of the recount, and after 33 days and millions of the Guyanese taxpayers’ dollars being spent, APNU+AFC and President Granger are still refusing to accept those results.

Ms. Singh has been fair and impartial in all of her decisions in relation to bringing an end to the current electoral Impasse. No one in their right mind will call for the resignation of such an outstanding Public Servant who has conducted herself admirably as the GECOM Chair.

Let us not forget the lengthy process that eventually placed this honourable lady in the position she now holds and executes with utmost legal tenacity and fortitude.

The URP supports the Chairman and all of her decisions and trusts that she stays the course and delivers to the Guyanese people a fair and impartial declaration of the March 2, 2020, General and Regional Elections.

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Vishnu Bandhu

Leader of the United Republican

Party
