Chairman Singh has to now ignore the legal noise and proceed with a declaration

Dear Editor,

This missive is directed at those with influence in and out of Guyana.

This weekend is a historic juncture and opportunity in the election farrago.

Let all sides not waste it.

Gecom should proceed at pace to get a true report on the recount results, even if that involves letting Mr Lowenfield go. Tout de suite. Then declare the result based on that. Chairman Singh has now to ignore the legal noise; it is just that. Vexatious and without foundation. Lawyers’ tosh.

APNU and David Granger have to accept that they have not won and the President step down gracefully with his Cabinet. No more legal manoeuvres – they are fruitless and time wasting. Time to go home to Pearl, seek wisdom and watch the mighty Demerara River.

PPP/C and Messrs Ali and Jagdeo need to accept office as the statesmen they can be. No nastiness, no recriminations. Healing. Announce the new Cabinet and their  programme for the first one hundred days. You are the alternative government. Build a GOAT-government of all the talents in and out of the Party tent including even former PNC/APNU ministers.

The international community especially within Guyana. Keep up the sterling relentless pressure for democratic values. It is working. Also keep the noose tightening around the enemies of democracy. That is working and will do.

This farce  has to come to an end.

August is too early for a Christmas pantomine.

Yours faithfully,

John ‘Bill Cotton/Reform’ Mair
